Another Victim of American Greed

This Friday, American greed claimed another victim at a New York Wal-Mart. A worker was trampled to death by a crowd of "eager bargain-hunters," who then complained when told that the store was closing for a few hours due to the man's death.

Here's the New York Times article about what happened.

Wherever the blame lies--be it with the mob that trampled the man, the national economy that's thinning working people's pocketbooks to the point that desperation overpowers good judgment, Wal-Mart for failing to provide appropriate security to its workers or the unfair economic system of the world in which we live--, this tragedy speaks to the miserable hierarchy in our society today. Profits supersede people. Money makes men and women seem meaningless in others' eyes. However you choose to understand what happened yesterday morning, please respond. Do not accept the devaluation of human life. Stand up for what you believe in. Change what you buy, where you buy... HOW you buy.

Our hearts go out to the man's family and to those shoppers who've reached the point that human life means so little. We all pray for an end to greed and a renewed care for our fellow human beings, here in the United States and abroad.
